Lead, Lift, and Thrive: Why Women's Leadership Communities Matter
Feb 13, 2025
“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
Last week, I closed the NCAIS Women in Leadership Conference with a challenge: What if the biggest barrier to success isn’t the “glass ceiling” but the “inner ceiling”—the doubts, fears, and limitations we place on ourselves?
Leadership isn’t meant to be a solo journey. That “inner ceiling” isn’t something we have to break alone.
Now more than ever, as we navigate the attacks on inclusion, systemic barriers, and the persistent pressures placed on women in leadership, we must come together—building communities that uplift and push back against the forces that seek to hold us back.
The Challenge: Thriving in a Changing Landscape
Inclusive teams drive innovation. We know this. Yet, many professionals—especially women and underrepresented leaders—navigate career paths not built with them in mind.
Early in my career, I was often the only woman or person of color in the room. I belonged, but it didn’t always feel that way despite my clear expertise and competence. I remember the exhaustion of carrying that weight alone. But I also remember what helped me push forward:
🔹 Mentors who shared their wisdom
🔹 Sponsors who advocated for me
🔹 A community that refused to let me shrink
Today, as conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion shift, I see a creeping fear that progress is slipping. Some organizations are pulling back. Others are redefining what inclusivity looks like.
But here’s what I know: True leadership isn’t about waiting for permission to create change—it’s about forging the path ahead.
How to Support Leadership Growth in a Shifting Workplace
You don’t need a title to create change. Leadership is influence, and influence starts with action. Here’s where to begin:
1️⃣ Be a Sponsor, Not Just a Mentor: Guidance is important, but advocacy changes lives. True leaders don’t just advise—they open doors.
- Recommend diverse talent for leadership opportunities.
- Invite them to key meetings and champion their work.
- Use your influence to amplify their ideas.
2️⃣ Audit Your Influence: Look around your leadership table. Who’s missing? Who’s unheard? Then ask yourself: What small action can I take today to expand the conversation?
- Suggest diverse voices for panels, leadership roles, and hiring pipelines.
- Challenge the status quo in decision-making spaces.
- Advocate for performance-based opportunities—talent thrives when given the right stage.
3️⃣ Build Future-Ready Leaders: The best teams aren’t built on sameness—they thrive on perspective. Investing in leadership development isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s a business strategy.
- Join or start mentorship programs.
- Encourage open dialogue in your workplace.
- Invest in leadership development that amplifies underrepresented voices.
Why Community is the Key to Thriving
When we connect with others who see our potential, we:
✅ Gain Clarity – Breaking through doubt is easier when others reflect our strengths.
✅ Find Strength – Shared experiences fuel growth.
✅ Create Opportunities – Together, we open doors for the next generation.
Each of these are the reasons I built Tech & Thrive—to help women challenge their inner ceilings, lead with confidence, and break through barriers.
An Invitation to ‘Thrive’
Representation sparks possibility. I’ve seen it firsthand—whether it’s in boardrooms, at Peace Jam, or even within team meetings. But true leadership growth happens when we surround ourselves with others who push us forward.
That’s why I created T.H.R.I.V.E. in Leadership—a dynamic cohort experience designed for women ready to rise, lead with confidence, and break through the barriers holding them back.
If you’re a woman in leadership seeking:
✅ A powerful community of like-minded leaders who uplift and support you
✅ Proven strategies to elevate your career and leadership presence
✅ A clear framework to silence self-doubt and own your impact
Then this is your time.
🚀 The next T.H.R.I.V.E. cohort launches this spring, and spots are limited.
